Termination Letter is a type of letter written to end an employment, contract, agreement, lease, service and any matter which requires to be terminated. Termination letters are types of business letters or official letters written in certain formats. Letters of termination are written for various situations as mentioned but the most common and obvious one’s are those which are related to employee termination. In fact, the mention of termination letter is almost synonym with the firing of an employee. It is true but to say that termination letters are only meant for ending employment is not the absolute truth.

A contract termination letter is also a common type of termination letter. It is a formal declaration towards ending all business relations with the contracting party. Termination Letters and Cancellation Letters sound very familiar. This is highlighted through the motives of both types of letters having similar objectives. Termination Letters are also considered similar to Resignation letters, but they aren’t so. A resignation letter is a document written by a person who wants to leave a job, post, or position voluntarily. Termination letter is more of a penalty enforced on the guilty individual or organisation. A termination letter can also be put into force without providing any reason. Such a terminating letter is put into use when the employment relationship is based on At Will Employment or Employment at Will Contract wherein the employer is free to discharge individuals without citing any reason.
